Ten years ago, I posted that I had always wanted to learn to play guitar. Nine years ago, when I bought Michael (then 8) his guitar in Beijing, I bought one too. Since then I’ve been slowly teaching myself to play. I’ve made use of a lot of content on Youtube, but I’ve consistently gone back to JustinGuitar. This channel is run by an Australian guy based in London named Justin Sandercoe. He has a ton of videos teaching you to play songs, from basic to expert. In each video he plays through the song then breaks it down part by part. He will often then show some advanced or alternate things you can do like showing how to play a key intro or riff or to change it to fingerstyle. I find his explanations clear and his patter entertaining. His videos cover a ton of songs, so it’s not too hard to find something you like and can play at almost any level.
He also has videos on other pertinent topics like music theory, guitars, etc. I started by jumping around and then found his website https://www.justinguitar.com/ where he has structured lesson programs for beginners, intermediate, advanced, and ukulele. I bought three of his songbooks where he has the songs corresponding to the courses (plus a Christmas music book) listed out with chords and lyrics plus notes on the rhythms and tips for the songs. Now that I can play a little, the books are easier to use than watching the videos over and over, although I still find it helpful to watch the videos for other tips and variations.
Anyway, if you’re at all interested in learning guitar (or learning more), I recommending checking out JustinGuitar.
